Answer:
The three stones set in the gold ring given by the landowner’s daughter to Sindhu had a secret which even Sindhu could not understand. The girl told that she had three strange strands of hair hidden among her black silken tresses. One was pure white, it resembled the colour of a diamond; one was dark red, the colour of a ruby; and the third strand was bright green which resembled the colour of an emerald. The three stones set in the ring represented those three colours of the strand of her hair.

All the other suitors were astonished at Sindhu’s success and they were very much disappointed at their own failure. One of them cried aloud that Sindhu’s success was an error of destiny. He said that God was playing tricks with the family of the landowner. Not ready to believe in the success of the peasant a suitor went to the extent of saying that it was the curse of God not blessing. But when Sindhu replied them that it was not a curse but a triumph of faith, love and patience, all the disappointed and angry suitors became silent.

Actually, Sindhu had full faith in the old woman’s promise that the three dancing goats would bring good fortune to him and his family. The words of the old woman echoed in his mind even at the time of ‘Swayamvar’, which gave him confidence and he revealed the truth in the crowd of the royal suitors and won the hand of the girl.

Earlier he had doubts about the old woman’s claims that they would bring fortune to him some day. But now he thought that even if they don’t bring him fortune, they will certainly help him earn money by entertaining the village folk. Having argued in this way in his own mind he accepted the old woman’s offer.
