Composition

Question 1.
Imagine a situation-after his release from prison if Raju had not landed up in village Mangal, but had gone back to his own town, how could he have led his life?
Answer:
If Raju had gone to his own village, he would live there as a changed man. He had learnt the philosophy of life in jail. He would make his own world in the village. He had worked hard in Jail Superintendent’s garden and had grown vegetables there. He had learnt the fruit and result of hard labour. He would work similarly at his father’s shop that was deserted by Raju himself. He had earned some money in jail. He could start his own business there. He might become a good shopkeeper or a good tourist guide because of his loquaciousness. He would not think about Rosie again. He would start living with his mother. He would surely regain his old prestige in his profession whatever he took in his hand. Destiny had always been the companion of Raju. His maternal uncle had a good social reputation. He would marry him. He would help Raju to settle his family matters again. He knows that truth and honesty always prevails and Raju would work on these principles.

Question 2.
Imagine, if Velan had believed that Raju was an ordinary man and not a saint, what turn would the story have taken?
Answer:
Raju had told Velan the whole episode that he is not a saint but an ordinary man. Velan had heard previously in the discourses of Raju the story of Valmiki and Angulimal. They both were previously very cruel and tyrant dacoits. But when they came into contact with the spiritual people, they both were transformed into a famous saint. Valmiki: had composed Ramayana and Angulimal became the follower of Buddha. Velan would continue to believe faithfully on Raju’s works and his character. He knew that Raju had good intelligence and he is worthy of to be a saint. He would respect him as well as the villagers. They might also work for the moral upliftment of the villagers, they may also work for the welfare of the people. The story of the novel would definitely take positive changes. The story may have presented in a different form, it would also be possible that Raju may not have to have the fast. He and the villagers might seek some other solution to their problems.

Question 3.
Think of a different ending of the novel and continue the story further.
Answer:
It was 5.30 in the morning. Swami asked a man to come near him. He said that he wanted to go to water basin. He reached there with the help of two persons. The people followed him silently. They could all listen the murmuring of the saint. Raju stepped into the water. He looked towards the mountain. He then said to Velan that it was raining in the hills. He could feel the water up to his feet.

He turned towards the temple. He was panting heavily for breath. Velan and his other friend picked him up and came into the main hall of the temple. Raju perspires a lot. Velan asked the people to move aside. Soon he started feeling cool wind. It was cloudy. There he could see the lightning and thundering. It started raining. It was raining cats and dogs. The people took shelter under their tents and under the trees. Raju was happy to see that his penance had ended the drought. It rained for more than six hours. It was still raining in the hills. The river was flowing. All the villagers were happy. Mr. James J. Malone reached that day very late. He had promised swami Raju to come early. The team of doctors were injecting glucose. Raju was recovering.

Question 4.
Suppose your elder sister has made her career as a dance choreographer. She gets engaged to a boy who asks her to give up her career against her wish. How will you deal with the situation?
Answer:
If the boy with whom my sister is engaged, asks her to give up her career as a choreographer. I would approach to him. I would talk to the boy. I would ask him what problem he has if my sister continues as a dancer. I will listen to him sincerely and seriously. I would ask him that as a dancer she could earn more money. I will try at my best to counsel the boy. I will talk to my sister regarding this matter. If she says that she won’t leave dancing. She wants to be a dancer, I shall help her to be a good dancer. After all my sister is free to live a free life. If the boy agrees, I will ask him again to consult to his family again. It can be understood from the novel well that if the thoughts and ideas of a husband and wife are different they better not to live together. It would be better to give up the relation because my priority will go with the happiness of my sister.

Question 5.
Have you done something to remove superstitions and illiteracy from the villages of India? Discuss.
Answer:
Superstitions and illiteracy in India are deeply rooted in the minds of the persons. I have participated in the evening classes run by the state government of Rajasthan where the illiterate are taught.

The government of Rajasthan in association with the department of science launched a programme to remove superstitions among people. Where it was taught that how a coconut catches fire, how a man lits a lamp on his tongue. I was taught by the teachers that all this is done by science. It needs continuous practice. Anybody can lit a lamp on his/her lips because as he lits he quickly takes that into the mouth and there is no harm. I have done it in my area only in Rajasthan. When we taught in the evening classes the people can read and understand what they have given. They saved themselves from the fraud people.

Question 6.
Do you remember a story where destiny plays an important role in the life of the characters? Write a summary of that story.
Answer:
I remember a story where his destiny along with his labour played an important part in life. I read it in a storybook. It was the time when India and Pakistan divided. Some Indians were living in a camp near a city. They came here from Pakistan. They were living in a refugee camp. There was a young man who had some money in his pocket. He started a business there with money. He sold napkins. Soon people liked his taste. He earned enough money. He left the camp and started his own business. He dealt in iron and steel. After some years of honest hard labour, he owned his own factory of iron. There is also a similar story of Dhiru Bhai Ambani. He worked on a petrol pump. He was the doyen of Indian industry.

Question 7.
Suppose you were a political leader. What would you have done to stop Raju from fasting?
Answer:
If I were a political leader, I would soon move towards that place with a team of doctors. I would ask swami Raju to end his fasting. I will take care that the emotions of the public must not be hurt. I would tell swami that it will not rain if you fast or not because it is a scientific matter. I would tell him that it is against law. I would give immediate relief to the public there. I would open ration shops and arrange water for them from other parts of the country from tankers. I would request the government for relief funds. I would also teach people to save water. I would ask them to store rainwater and use it for various purposes. I would make a better arrangement not to waste water.

Question 8.
Write an essay on one of the following topics
Answer:
Tourism in India
India is one of the oldest country in the world, full of charming and attractive historical sites. There are many challenging and mysterious stories that were laid in the foundation of Indian cities. India is a country of contrasts from architectural and cultural perspectives. If one wants to amuse with food, culture, language, clothing and various traditions India is the right place for you to visit. With a population of over one billion people, India is very multicultural and each of the twenty-eight states in the country has its unique identity that determines and directs its history.

India is the motherland of Mahatma Gandhi and others. Everybody knows Taj Mahal, Himalayas, Bengal Tiger are the icons of Indian tourism. Those who want to see beach and sun tourism India is ready to offer Goa and Kerala Beaches.

India is opening the doors of the Khajuraho temples with its magnificent arts of early medieval period constructed in 9th and 10th centuries.

Socio-economic Conditions
of India India is the second largest populous country in the world with a population of more than one billion in 2001. It has been observed that people of lower socio-economic status

often fail to get what is made for them. The socio-economic scenarios for India are consistent with national growth. Socio-economic frame work of India is based on policy direction and social values.

Socio-economic backwardness has given rise to some important questions as far as minority community is concerned. After six decades of independence people in West Bengal and other parts of the country are lagging behind. These do not constitute the urban bulk of the population. Most of the people are from a rural community, they are bound to be socioeconomically backward. Balance sex ratio is an indicator of the status of men and women.

Our political culture is democratic but it is not all inclusive. Political power and fruits of economic and social development are monopolized in some hands.

The Role of Education in Rural India
True education begins at the cradle—one might even add that it starts in the mother’s womb itself. Recognition of a smile and for that matter of a frown on the parent’s face is indicative of the presence of awareness.

Children are given both formal and informal education. When a young boy attains to adolescence education is needed at that time. It is a critical period needing delicate handling and wise counsel. Facts of life have an inexorable logic of their own. The best policy is to face them, train them. Good education can do much to the personality of young man or woman.

Education can enable a man to think of his career. A young man after his graduation or post-graduation is in need of employment. This is necessary for him. The youth of India should be taught to do something at their own place. They can do better in agriculture and industry. The attraction of a government job should be curtailed. If the education system is strengthened at the rural level India can progress a lot.

Hypocrisy is not a Key to Success
Hypocrisy means “behaviour in which somebody pretends to have moral standards or opinions that they do not actually have.” There are many persons in our society who pretends to become great social servants but they are a hypocrite. They have something different in their hearts.

This can be applied on most of the students also. They pretend to be intelligent, hard worker but when the time comes to prove themselves they are false. You can achieve happiness for some time, which is transitory. The permanent happiness will come to you when you work hard. Have a first-hand experience only then you can succeed. Most of the students who have topped at their school and college level prove themselves a failure in real life. Thus Hypocrisy is not a key to success.
