Answer the following questions in about 150 words each :

Question 1.
Describe the atmosphere of the poem.
Answer:
The poem has been composed in the atmosphere of countryside which is full of natural environment. It seems as a pastoral poem. The poetess draws vivid picture of village life. She plays the role of a country woman who goes to fill her pitcher of water at the bank of the river Yamuna. It is the time of evening and the dusk has fallen but the woman appears listening to the song of the boatman. Although she knows that she is alone and the way of her home is very long and far from the river. Yet she stays to listen to the song. It shows her great love and attachment with the nature and the music of the nature

The poetess shows her great faith in her creator who is Lord Rama with whom she urges to lead her the way and to protect her from the troubles on the way. The poem delivers the message to the human being to be the associate of nature and have full of faith in our creator who always stands for our rescue and leads us on the right path when we are in troubles.

She imagines the song of the sailor as the song of nature and dedicates herself to listen to the divine song. She does not think about the remarks of her family members and ignores the danger of the way due to darkness.

She knows that she is alone and her house is very far from the river and it is getting dark but she stays to listen to the song. It shows her great faith in her maker and perfect involvement in nature. She imagines.. that her maker is always with her and He will protect her from any danger of her life, so she repeats the name of Lord Rama to overcome her fear of death to make her way clear to live a successful life in this mortal world.
