Persona:
A persona is a social role or a character played by an actor. It is a narrative voice that speaks in the first person. It is not autobiographical as the speaker assumes the role and has universal appeal. Here Stephens, the poet, assumes the role of an animal lover but he is not an individual and exhorts us like any other animal lover.
Symbol:
A symbol is something that represents something else by association, resemblance or connection especially a material object used to represent something invisible for example, the flower is a symbol of beauty. Here, in this poem, the poet has used ‘snare’ and ‘cry’ as symbols of loss of freedom, imprisonment and strong voice, sound for help respectively.
Rhyme: A rhyme is a repeating pattern of similar sound mostly in the final syllables of lines in poems or songs. Tail rhyme/end rhyme helps to mark off the ends of lines and clarifies the material structure of the poem for the listener. It is pleasant to hear and facilitates to memorize. Stephens has used end-rhyme a-b-a-b in all the four stanzas of equal length.

Should animal/insect dissections be banned in lab experiments at school/college level? Argue in favour of or against it.
Answer:
In favour:
Animal/insect dissections in lab experiments at school/college level should be banned. It should be banned because a large number of such animals/insects are needed for this purpose. It is a very cruel act against those animals/insects. In the name of dissections, a large number of animals/insects are killed every year. The killing of animals/ insects is very harmful to our ecological balance.
Against it:
It should not be banned because if it is banned, the experiments will not be conducted. If it is banned, the students will not be able to have practical knowledge. They will remain confined to the theoretical knowledge of related subjects. It will be very difficult to compromise for the students who want to go into the field of medical science. Practical knowledge will not be possible for them without experiments. To understand human and animal anatomy, these experiments are necessary.

The Secretary

New Delhi
10 June 20–
Mrinal Kumar
A-24, Anand Apartment
Ajmer
Subject: Regarding the protection of wildlife.
Sir
I want to draw your kind attention towards the plight of caged birds and animals for human entertainment. At the places like Zoos and circuses, animals/birds are caged for public entertainment. In circuses, animals/birds are not only caged but tortured also badly in the name of training. They are forced to perform unnatural and dangerous feats for viewers. They are not given proper food and other living facilities. The same way visitors in Zoos are generally seen teasing birds/animals. Many times they are in a very miserable condition. They too feel pain and cry of agony.
I most humbly request you to look into the matter and take necessary actions.
Thanking you
Yours faithfully
Mrinal

Question 3.
Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper about the importance of freedom and liberty for birds and animals keeping in view the problem of their extinction.
पक्षियों और जानवरों के विलुप्तीकरण की समस्या को ध्यान में रखते हुए उनकी स्वतंत्रता के महत्व के बारे में किसी समाचार-पत्र के सम्पादक को एक पत्र लिखिए।
Answer:
Editor, Rajasthan Patrika
Jaipur 10 Jan. 20–
Dear Sir
Freedom is a gift given by nature to every living creature. Like human beings, birds and animals also need freedom. Generally, people are not sympathetic and kind towards birds and animals. They catch them and cage them for their own benefits. They become so selfish that they don’t feel pain at all for them. In zoos, visitors tease birds and animals. In circuses, they are forced to perform dangerous feats. Due to lack of protection, many species of birds and animals are on the verge of extinction. So, strict laws for conservation of wildlife should be enacted. The government should provide special arrangements for protecting wildlife.
Yours faithfully
Alka Mishra
