Question 1.
State which of the following are equations (with a variable). Identify (RBSESolutions.com) the variable from the equations with a variable.
(i) 5x = 0
(ii) t – 7 > 5
(iii) 4 ÷ 2 = 2
(iv) 2x – 1 < 5
(v) 7 = 14 × 2 + q
(vi) 15000 = 2t + 3500

Question 2.
For the equation, 10y = 50, pick out the solution (RBSESolutions.com) which satisfies the equation from the values y = 10, y = 8 and y = 5.
Solution:
Given equation 10y = 50
Putting y = 10,
= 10 × 10 = 50
⇒ 100 = 50
Equation does not satisfy.
Putting y = 8,
= 10 × 8 = 50
⇒ 80 = 50
Equation satisfies.
Putting y = 5,
= 10 × 5 = 50
⇒ 50 = 50
Equation satisfies.
∴ Given equation satisfies for y = 5

Question 3.
A possible solution is given with each of the equations given below. Put (RBSESolutions.com) the value of the variable in the equations and show that the value satisfy/do not satisfy the equation.
(i) 3x – 7 = 5, x = 5
(ii) 3p + 2 = 8, p = 2
Solution:
(i) 3x – 7 = 5
Putting x = 5, 3 × 5 – 7 = 5
⇒ 15 – 7 = 5
⇒ 8 = 5
Thus, given equations (RBSESolutions.com) does not satisfy for x = 5.

(ii) 3p + 2 = 8
Putting p = 2, 3 × 2 + 2 = 8
⇒ 6 + 2 = 8
⇒ 8 = 8
Thus, given equation satisfy for p = 2.

Question 4.
Complete the table and by inspection of the (RBSESolutions.com) table find the solution to the equation :
(i) 3x = 15

\(\frac { p }{ 3 }=4\)
⇒ p = 4 × 3 = 12
Thus:  p = 12

(iii) Table
