Many years ago there was a miser named Lakhimal in Banswara. He had a lot of money but he never spent any of it. He never ate good food and he never bought new clothes. He had only one pair of shoes. On wet grounds he always took them off and put them into his pockets. He was very rich but he was not happy. He wanted more money. One day a man came to him and said, “There is a rich man named Karorimal in Nagaur. He spends less and saves more than you every day. Go to him and be his pupil.” Lakhimal thanked the man and the next day he went to Nagaur.

Shahjahan was one of the greatest of the Mughal emperors. He was the grandson of Akbar. Shahjahan loved Mumtaz Mahal very much. At the age of 35 the queen died. The emperor became very sad. He built a beautiful tomb over her grave. He spent crores and crores of rupees on it. Many people go to Agra to see the Taj.

The elephant is different from other animals because of two things- its trunk and its tusks. The trunk of the elephant is very long. Elephants use their trunks in many ways. When they face an enemy it is a weapon for them. They also use their trunks to breathe and to drink water. The trunk is the most sensitive part of the elephant’s body. Even a small boy can shoot an elephant by hitting it on the trunk with an arrow. The tusks of an elephant make it look beautiful. Only male elephants have tusks, the females don’t. People, therefore, hunt only the males, not the females.

One night the little prince was fast asleep in his bed, while Panna’s own child was in her lap. She was singing softly to him to put him to sleep. At once there was a great noise in the palace. Then a servant came
running to say that Banbir had killed Rana Vikramajit and was coming to kill the prince.
Panna wanted to save the prince. So she took up the little child. She hid him in a fruit basket and covered it with leaves. She told the servant to take it outside and hide it among the trees.
Banbir, the wicked man, burst into the room. His eyes were red, his face was furious. He roared and asked Panna where the prince was.

Gandhiji is called the ‘Father of the Nation’. He is known as one of the greatest men in the world. He was born on October 2, 1869, in Gujarat. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was educated in England. He went to South Africa to practise as a lawyer. When he returned to India, he started movements against the British to make India free. His movements were based on truth and nonviolence. He was sent to jail several times. At last India was freed on August 15, 1947. On January 30, 1948 he was shot dead by a man named Nathuram Godse. Bapu lived and died for India.

Goats didn’t seem frightened at all. “The Well of Death’ was highly risky. A motor-cyclist motored inside the well. Occasionally, a dwarf dressed up as a clown entertained the audience. Trees give shade in summer to weary people. At the same time, they are a treasure house of oxygen. We often see people with breathing problems. This is only because of reducing of oxygen in atmosphere day by day. This is, again, because of cutting forests at a large scale.
The trees are a boon to us and their cutting is a curse to mankind. Without greenery, it is not possible to live happily. So, it is the duty of every citizen to take care of the environment.

Allahabad is an important town. The two great rivers Ganga and Yamuna meet here. Such a meeting of two rivers is called Sangam. In ancient times, Rishis made their Ashrams at this place. The ancient name of Allahabad is Prayag. Emperor Akbar named it Allahabad i.e. ‘Abode of Allah’. He also built a very large fort on the right bank of the Yamuna.
During the British rule, a university was founded here. Many scholars have come out from Allahabad University. It is called the ‘Oxford of the East’. Allahabad has given more than one Prime Minister to India. The High Court of Allahabad is also very important. It is one of the biggest High Courts of Asia.
