डायरी लिखना एक बहुत ही अच्छी आदत होती है। इसे लिखना शुरू करने के लिए किसी विशेष प्रकार के अभ्यास या दक्षता की आवश्यकता नहीं होती है और ना ही डायरी लिखना कोई कला होती है, लेकिन हम डायरी में सुन्दर अभिव्यक्ति करके अपनी डायरी को यादगार बना सकते हैं। कई व्यक्तियों की डायरियाँ अत्यधिक प्रसिद्ध भी हुई हैं जिन्हें आज भी कई सारे लोगों के द्वारा विभिन्न उद्देश्यों से पढ़ा जाता है। ऐसी कुछ डायरियों के उदाहरण हैं:

डायरी कई प्रकार की हो सकती हैं। जैसे
- दिन-प्रतिदिन लिखे जाने वाले व्यक्तिगत अनुभव जो कि सामान्यतया सोने से पहले लिखे जाते हैं।
- Planner के रूप में-जिन व्यक्तियों के कार्यक्रम अति व्यस्त होते हैं उन्हें अपने भविष्य के कार्यक्रमों को डायरी में ही लिखना पड़ता है।
- याददाश्त के रूप में भी हमें कई बातें उसी समय लिखनी पड़ जाती हैं जिस समय पर ये घटित होती हैं यह भी डायरी का एक रूप है। डायरी लिखने के अनेकों लाभ हैं; जैसे|
(i) यह हमारी स्मरण-शक्ति को बढ़ाती है। हमें डायरी में दिन-प्रतिदिन की घटना लिखने से पहले उन्हें याद करना पड़ता है। यह हमारी Recalling की शक्ति को बढ़ाता है।
(ii) यह हमें गलत रास्तों पर चलने से बचाता है क्योंकि यदि हम डायरी में सभी कुछ सत्य-सत्य लिख देते। हैं तो हम अपने द्वारा किए गए गलत कार्य का वर्णन करने से कतराऐंगे और भविष्य में ऐसे गलत कार्यों को करने से भी कतराने लगेंगे।
(iii) जिस प्रकार से इतिहास हमें पूर्वजों द्वारा की गई गलतियों को नहीं दोहराने की शिक्षा देता है उसी प्रकार से आपकी डायरी भी आपको शिक्षा प्रदान करेगी ।
Steps to Write a Diary
सामान्यतया एक डायरी लिखने के निम्नलिखित पद हो सकते हैं
- Day and Date- आप अपनी डायरी ओर सबसे ऊपर Day तथा Date लिख सकते हैं। बाजार में ऐसी डायरियाँ भी उपलब्ध होती हैं जिनमें पहले से ही Day तथा Date छपा हुआ होता है।
- Name- यदि आप चाहें तो अपनी डायरी को कोई नाम भी दे सकते हैं; जैसे- Anne Frank ने अपनी डायरी को ‘Kitty’ नाम दिया था।
- Content of the diary- यदि हम डायरी को रात को लिखते हैं तो दिन-भर घटित हुई घटनाओं को लिखेंगे। यदि हम भविष्य की कोई योजना बना रहे हैं तो उसके बारे में लिखेंगे।

Today we reached Shree Mahavir Ji by the Janata Express. We reached here at 6.30 a.m. We saw here a temple of Lord Mahavir. The sand stone idol of Lord Mahavir was extracted from the soil of the village, Chandangaon. It is 78 cm high idol. It is of copper coloured and is in the Padmasana posture. Shree Mahavir Ji is one of the holy |places for everyone.
आज हम जनता एक्सप्रेस से श्री महावीर जी पहुँचे। हम यहाँ पर प्रातः 6.30 बजे पहुंचे। यहाँ हमने भगवान महावीर का मंदिर देखा। भगवान महावीर की बलुआ पत्थर की प्रतिमा को चंदनगाँव से खोदकर निकाला गया था। यह 78 सेन्टीमीटर ऊँची प्रतिमा है। यह ताँबे के रंग की है तथा पद्मासन मुद्रा में है। श्री महावीर जी प्रत्येक के लिए एक पवित्र स्थान है।

The rival team could not face the bowling of our captain. They were all out at ninety. When it was our turn to bat, we lost three wickets in quick succession. Later, we recovered and won the match.
आज हम माध्यमिक विद्यालय, रामगढ़ के साथ क्रिकेट मैच खेले। हमारी टीम ने टास जीता व फील्डिग करने का निश्चय किया। खेल लगभग 9.00 बजे शुरू हुआ। हमारी फील्डिग उत्कृष्ट थी। विरोधी टीम हमारे कप्तान की गेंदबाजी का सामना नहीं कर पाई। वे 90 पर ऑल आउट हो गये। जब हमारी बल्लेबाजी करने की बारी आई तो हमने जल्दी-जल्दी तीन विकेट गंवा दिये। बाद में हम संभल गए व मैच जीत गए।

गत रात्रि को हमारी कॉलोनी के एक धनी युगल के घर में कुछ सेंधमार घुस गए। उन्होंने लॉकर तोड़ा और आभूषणों को बॉक्स लेकर भागने की कोशिश की। कुत्तों के भौंकने के परिणामस्वरूप पड़ौसी घरों से बाहर आए । उन्होंने सेंधमारों को देखा और उन्हें पकड़ा । उन्होंने पुलिस को फोन पर सूचित भी कर दिया । कुछ देर बाद पुलिस वहाँ पर पहुँची और सेंधमारों को गिरफ्तार किया ।
