The steps of one general exercise are as follows:

  1. Stretch left arm in front and right arm to the right side.
  2. Bring both the arms in front with a bend at elbows palms facing downwards and thumbs towards chest touching each other.
  3. Stretch right arm in front and left arm left way.
  4. Return to the position of No. 2
  5. Stretch arms to the right side and the left side.
  6. Stand in the position of attention.

Note: Repeat the above process to the count of 16.

With what aim was Bhartiyam started in India? Write a brief note on the Bhartiyam Plan introduced in India.

  1. The Bhartiyam aims mainly at producing healthy citizens through different physical exercises and creating in them the spirit of community living, tolerance, mutual give and take as well as recognising the self.
  2. Bhartiyam, literally means ‘This is India’. The Bhartiyam Programme was introduced in 1982 during the Ninth Asian games held at Delhi. Gradually the scheme gathered momentum and it has been widely introduced in almost all the states and regions of India. Under this scheme special training is imparted in group sports and games and activities related, mainly, with the physical exercises.
  3. The Bhartiyam programme covers various activities as:-

Steps of Laziasm drill are as follows:
Exercise No. 1

  1. Eyes in front, step forward in the right direction with a push and strike the small iron rod in front of the left foot in the bending position.
  2. Straighten your body and bring Laziasm to the level of left thigh bone and hold together wooden rod and small iron rod.
  3. Repeat number one step.
  4. Return to the original position in the state of attention.
  5. Raise Laziasm above the head and open small iron rod in front with a turn.
  6. Strike Laziasm above the head to produce sound.
  7. Return to the position of step No. 1.
  8. Return to the original position of attention. Continue to the count of 16 set.

Exercise No. 2

  1. With a turn to the right, stretch right leg backward and open Laziasm at the back and strike rear right leg in the bending position. Keep small iron rod downward.
  2. Straighten waist without moving feet and bring small rod close to the big wooden handle.
  3. Strike Laziasm with a sound near left leg in the bending position.
  4. Gather Laziasm keeping waist straight.
  5. Bring right leg in front with a right turn and’open Laziasm above the head keeping small iron rod in front.
  6. Strike Laziasm with a sound above the head remaining in the position of step No. 5.
  7. Join right leg with left leg and strike Laziasm in the bending position.
  8. Return to the original position and continue the process to the count of 16 set.

Flag Drill—Position: Hold both the flags with hands keeping them straight in front with bend at elbows and arms touching the body. Remain in the position of attention.
Exercise No. 1

  1. Stretch left arm in front and bring forward left foot.
  2. Move left arm to the left and left foot to the left.
  3. Repeat step No. 1
  4. Return to the original position.
  5. Repeat the same exercise with the right arm and right leg.

Exercise No. 2

  1. Stretch both the arms in front.

Different forms of exercises are physical or mental, formal or informal and general or specific.

Fancy drill:

  1. There are many community or group exercises. They are done by holding in hands colourful ribbons, flowers, handkerchiefs, fans, rings, small rods with tinkering sound of bells. They are commonly known as Fancy Drills and are demonstrated mostly on special occasions as Annual Day, Sports Day, Parents-Teachers Day, National Days etc. Different exercises of hands, feet, neck, thigh etc in the standing, turning and circular positions are performed.
  2. A few important points regarding the shape and size of the articles used is given below:
    1. Bamboo Drill: Size of the Bamboo-10’ to 12’ long, 2” to 3” diameter with ghoongroos on both the ends.
    2. Scarf or handkerchief Drill: Minimum Size-2’ x 2’ of mixed colours or one bright colour.
    3. Flower Drill or Floral Drill: Size-Artificial rose flower attached to at least one foot long iron wire, at least two in each hand.
    4. Hoop Drill: Diameter of Hoop-1 ½’ x 2 ½’
    5. Flag Drill: Size of Flag: 1’ x 8” fixed on 1’/4’ stick or rod.

Position:
Hold both the flags with hands keeping them straight in front with bend at elbows and arms touching the body. Remain in the position of attention.
