Tough time for touts: 12 held for harassing tourists in city
25 December 20 —

by Aniket

Haridwar: Police and the tourist department got hard with touts who harass tourists in the city. Police arrested over a dozen of them on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to Tourist Assistance Force (TAF) officials, a campaign is being carried out against city touts.

“We have arrested 12 touts from different areas of the city while they were harassing foreign tourists,” an official said.

“There are a lot of habitual offenders’ among touts. They are being identified and a database is being prepared,” the officer said. TAF will also make sure the touts are released only on certified bonds. In case of repeated violation, they could be booked under more punitive laws. Currently, there are 50 ex-servicemen working for TAF. They are deputed at tourist spots, but they often find themselves at the receiving end of the touts. Nothing was done against attackers in instances when hawkers attacked them.

“Earlier, TAF used to round up the touts and handed them over to the police. They were then booked under Section 151 of CRPC but were released the very next day. Now, they won’t be able to get away with mild punishment anymore,” the official added.

Question 4.
You are Beena/Biju. As a special correspondent of a leading daily, you have to write a report in 150 to 200 words on good oral hygiene for overall well-being
Answers:
Good oral hygiene is essential for overall well-being
26 December 20 –, Kota

by Beena/Biju

There’s more to oral hygiene than just brushing your teeth. Here’s why it’s important and how to get it right.

Good oral health and a beautiful smile can enhance one’s confidence. Good oral hygiene implies that the teeth are clean; the gums are pink and do not bleed and absence of bad breath. Dental hygiene can pave the way for a healthier life.

Unfortunately, many people do not pay attention to oral hygiene due to busy stressful lifestyle, change in diets from tough fibrous food to soft refined food and increased incidence of systemic disorders.

Gum diseases caused by poor oral hygiene have been linked to systemic diseases, like cardiovascular diseases, stroke, pre-term delivery of babies and diabetes mellitus.

Diabetes and gum diseases have a two-way relationship. Uncontrolled diabetes leads to increased production of harmful substances in the blood, which have a destructive effect on gums. Similarly, products released due to gum disease cause an elevation in blood glucose level, which may require more medication or insulin. So, maintenance of good oral health by a diabetic can actually lower his/her dosage. Bacterial toxins from gum disease enter the bloodstream and contribute to blockage of a blood vessel, resulting in cardiac arrest and stroke.

It is to draw your kind attention to the rude behaviour of Mr R. K. Soni, the cashier of your bank. We have so many complaints against him. Whenever we approach his counter, we have to stand for hours to get the amount because he is often found either out or indulged in chatting. He can be seen talking on phone or another person present there in the bank. We wait for him for a long time but he doesn’t seem to pay attention to the customers. Whenever we request him, he starts behaving in a rude manner, particularly with the customers. When he makes payment, he does not care for priority. Write a report on hazards of smoking in about 150-200 words.
Answers:
A Report on Hazards of Smoking

The habit of smoking, especially in youngsters, has assumed alarming proportions in India. Adolescents take up smoking as recreation and soon fall into this great harmful habit. A recent survey done by World Health Organization revealed that the number of regular smokers in the age group of 17 to 25 has gone up by about 15 per cent in the last decade. The WHO report estimated the cost of de-addiction and medical treatment of smokers at 700 crores annually. The percentage of smokers in urban and rural areas is almost the same and deaths due to smoking-related diseases have been put at almost 2.5 million annually.

Students, young professionals, workers and agricultural labourers are some sections that are more prone to the habit of smoking.

Passive smoking has also became a major health hazard for non-smokers like children and women.

A recent law has banned smoking in public places and workplaces and penalties have been imposed on violaters. Huge profits made by tobacco companies and the income obtained by the government through excise duty on tobacco products has prevented a complete ban on tobacco products; however awareness drives should be initiated to educate the youth about the fatal effects of smoking on their health.

Question 13.
Write a report on ground water conservation in about 150-200 words.
Answers:
A Report on Ground Water Conservation
Jamnagar, Febrauary 10

Dangerously low levels of groundwater in most regions of Saurashtra have sent alarm bells ringing. In a recent survey, it was found that groundwater levels have gone down by almost 50150 feet in the last decade. Rising population, growing industrialisation and increased agricultural demands have put an increased burden on available water resources. In and around Jamnager, efforts have been made to collect water by builing dams and reservoirs to conserve rainwater. However, erratic rainfall leaves them mostly dry.

The situation worsens during summers and most tubewells, wells and submersible pumps become useless.

About 60 per cent of irrigated agriculture and 85 per cent of drinking water supply depends on groundwater sources in Jamnagar. Hence, receding of groundwater levels has created acute water shortage in and around the city.

Recently, new rainwater-harvesting systems have been installed in apartment blocks and in many buildings. Water-recyling has also been taken up on a large scale and careful use of water is being taught to people. These measures are expected to improve the situation of water availibility in the city in the coming years.

A Report on School Tour to a Historical Monument
Kota, November 21

Our school arranged a tour of Chittorgarh for class XII students last week. Our entire class of 60 students gathered in the school grounds where the school bus waited to take us to our destination. All of us had brought their lunch and other eatables. The bus departed at 9 a.m. amid a chorus of hurrahs and shouts of joy.

Our history teaher, Mrs Sharma and our class teacher Mr Singh accompanied us. We were told not to litter and maintain discipline on the trip. The two hour journey was quite enjoyable and we reached Chittorgarh at 11 a.m.

The very first view of the Chittor Fort was stunning. The fort stood on a hilltop. Our history teacher told us that this was one of the largest forts in India and was built by the Mauryas during the 7th Century. It has also been the Capital of Mewar for more than 800 years. The fort has many gates, the main gate being Ram Pol. We saw the museum in Fateh Prakash Palace, which had a unique collection of old guns, swords and other weapons.

We also saw the famous Vijay Stambh which was built by Rana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over Mahmud Khilji. Its 157 steps lead to the top of the tower. We also saw the Rana Kumbha Palace. This palace was the residence of Meera Bai and queen Padmini. After having lunch near a large pond, we started back for Kota at 3 p.m.

It was truly a memorable experience to see history came alive before our eyes.
