We can build underground tanks and store the water collected from our roof during the rains. We can recharge our wells and tubewells by making percolation tank near them. Mahatma Gandhi is called the father of the nation. He is regarded as one of the greatest men of the world. He was born at Porbandar in Kathiawar in Gujarat on October 2, 1869. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was sent to England for higher education. On his return from England, he began to practise as barrister in Bombay High Court. In 1913 he left for South Africa in order to plead a case.
There he fought against colour-prejudice. When he returned to India, he joined the Indian National Congress. He started the Non-Co-operation Movement in 1920 and Civil Disobedience Movement in 1930. In 1942, he started Quit India Movement. He was sent to jail several times. His movements were based on truth and non-violence. He believed in universal brotherhood and love. He was of the opinion that if we have conflict with Englishmen, let us not hate them because both Englishmen and Indians are offsprings of the same divinity. At last, India was freed on August 15,1947.
On January 30, 1948, he was shot dead by Nathuram Godse.
