Uttankas Gurudakshina Theme Of The Lesion
This story portrays devotion, respect and sincerity of a disciple towards his teacher. In Hindu epic Mahabharata, Uttanka’s legend has been narrated. After acquiring all knowledge from his guru he expresses his desire to pay back his gift. On denial from his master, he goes to his mistress who expresses her desire to wear the ear-rings of the queen in a feast. In an aim to fulfil his mistress’s aspiration, Uttanka goes all through the forest to see the king and queen. On the way, he came across a huge man who offers him to drink filthy water and assumed that it will give him strength.
At last, he reached the palace and goes straight to the king and requests for ear-rings. The king advised him to seek permission from the queen. Queen was very impressed with his loyalty and gave him her ear-ring willingly. The Queen advises Uttanka to be careful as the ear-rings have been coveted by the serpent king. Uttanka thanks her and heads back towards the hermitage. On the way back the ear-rings are snatched by the serpent king. He does not give up and tries hard to get ear-rings back. When he gives the ear-rings to the mistress on time she blesses him for his courage.
Uttankas Gurudakshina Short Summary
About Uttanka: In the Hindu epic Mahabharata, Uttanka was a disciple of a famous sage. He was very sincere, obedient, intelligent, and courageous.
Uttanka wishes to pay back his master: He expresses his desire to pay back his master for all his teachings as a ‘Guru Dakshina’. His master told him that he had no desires. He asked him to consult his mistress.
The longing of the Mistress: Uttanka’s mistress expresses her aspiration for the ear-rings of the queen which she always cherished and wanted to wear them in a feast. This makes Uttanka surprised.
Uttanka met a huge man: Uttanka sets out to procure the ear-rings. In the forest meets a huge man seated upon a huge bull, which made him scared. The man asked him to drink a cup full of dirty water and assured him that it will help him.
Uttanka’s meeting with the king: Uttanka reached the palace and went inside boldly where he meets the king seated upon the royal throne. Uttanka bowed before the king respectfully and tells him that he has come from hermitage to fullfill his mistress desire of wearing the queen’s ear-rings and if he did not get them, he will lose favour in his master’s eye. King asks Uttanka to see the queen for this purpose. Uttanka goes to the queen who being impressed by him, gives him her ear-rings willingly. At the same time she also warns him about the serpent kings greediness to get hold of the ear-rings. He thanks her and starts his way back to the forest.
Snatching of ear-rings by the serpent king: On way back to the hermitage, Uttanka felt tired and rested by placing the ear-rings on the ground beside him. Suddenly the serpent king came and snatched away the ear-rings from him.
Uttanka’s struggle for the ear-rings: Uttanka tries his hand to get back the earrings. He runs all through the forest after the serpent king. With the help of an old man he got inside the kingdom of the serpent king. He was able to force the serpent king by burning his kingdom and get back the ear-rings.
Mistress’ blessings: When he gave his mistress the ear-rings, the mistress blesses him for his courage.
Uttanka’s adventurous trip: When Uttanka relates his adventures to his master, his master reveals that the dirty water he drank was ambrosia, that had given him eternal youth. The two maidens weaving black and white threads were night and day. The wheels with twelve spokes is the year with its twelve months and the boys were the seasons. The man whom he met was the God of Rain and the horse was the god of fire.
Uttanka heeds to his living: As he had fulfilled his duties well, the master reveals Uttanka to seek his living into the world and to avail the opportunity to earn great fortune ahead.

यह कहानी एक अनुशासित छात्र का अपने गुरु के प्रति सम्मान, समर्पण और निष्कपटता की गाथा है। हिंदू धर्मग्रंथ, महाभारत में उत्तंक की एक पौराणिक कथा का वर्णन किया गया है। गुरु से सारा ज्ञान प्राप्त करने के बाद उसने अपने गुरु के सामने गुरुदक्षिणा देने की इच्छा जाहिर की। गुरु के द्वारा अपने आग्रह को ठुकरा दिए जाने के बाद वह अपनी गुरुमाता के पास गया और उनके सामने अपनी इच्छा रखी जिन्होंने एक समारोह में रानी के समान अपने कानों में बाला पहनने की अपनी इच्छा जाहिर की। अपनी गुरुमाता की इच्छा पूरी करने के लिए उत्तंक सारे जंगल में घूमता रहा ताकि वह किसी राजा और रानी को देख सके। इस तलाश के दौरान मार्ग में चलते हुए उसे एक विशालकाय आदमी मिला जिसने उसे गंदा पानी पीने को दिया और विश्वास दिलाया कि यह उसे भरपूर शक्ति प्रदान करेगा।
अंत में वह एक राजभवन पहुँचा और सीधे राजा के पास गया जिससे उसने कान का बाला देने का अनुरोध किया। राजा ने उसे सलाह दिया कि पहले वह रानी से आदेश प्राप्त करे। रानी उसके इस कर्तव्यपरायणता से अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुई और अपने कानों का बाले खुशी-खुशी उतार कर उसे दे दी। रानी ने उत्तंक को सलाह दिया कि वह सावधान रहे और उसे ठीक उसी तरह छिपा कर ले जाय ताकि साँप कुंडली मारकर छिपा राजा उसे देख न ले। उत्तंक ने उस रानी का धन्यवाद दिया और अपने गुरु की कुटिया की ओर लौट पड़ा। लौटते समय कुण्डलीन राजा ने उससे वह कान का बाला छीन लिया। उसने उसे आसानी से नहीं दिया और हरसंभव प्रयास किया कि उस कान के बाले को सुरक्षित बचा सके। उसने कान का बाला जब अपनी गुरुमाता को उचित समय पर दिया तो उन्होंने उसके साहस के लिए उसकी सराहना की।
संक्षिप्त सारांश
उत्तंक के विषय में : हिंदू धर्म का महाकाव्य महाभारत में, उत्तंक एक महान ऋषि का शिष्य था। वह अत्यंत चतुर, निष्कपट, आज्ञाकारी, बुद्धिमान और साहसी था।
अपने गुरु को गुरुदक्षिणा देने की उत्तंक की तमन्नाः उसने अपने गुरु के सामने अपनी समस्त शिक्षा के बदले गुरुदक्षिणा देने का आग्रह किया। उसके गुरु ने कहा कि उनकी ऐसी कोई इच्छा नहीं है। उन्होंने उसे आदेश दिया कि वह अपने गुरुमाता से इस मामले में संपर्क करे।
गुरुमाता की लालसाः उत्तंक की गुरुमाता वर्षों से अपने दिल में एक अवसर पर रानी के जैसा सोने का कान का बाला पहनने की इच्छा पाल कर रखी थी। उन्होंने अपनी यह इच्छा जाहिर कर उत्तंक को चौंका दिया।
एक विशालकाय आदमी से उत्तंक की मुलाकातः उत्तंक ने यह तय कर लिया था कि उसे कान की बाला प्राप्त करना है। इस तलाश में उसकी मुलाकात एक विशालकाय आदमी से हुई जो एक अति-विशाल भैंसे पर बैठा था, जिसने उसे दुर्लभ बताया। उस आदमी ने उत्तंक से कहा कि वह उसके द्वारा दिया गया एक प्याला गंदा पानी पी ले और यह विश्वास कर के चले कि यह उसकी सहायता करेगा।
उत्तंक की राजा से मुलाकात: वह राजभवन पहुँचा और दृढ़ता के साथ अंदर गया जहाँ उसकी मुलाकात राजा से हुई जो राजसिंहासन (राजगद्दी) पर बैठा था। उत्तंक राजा के सामने सम्मान के साथ झका और अभिवादन करने के बाद उसने बताया किय कि वह अपनी गुरुमाता के लिए रानी के कानों का बाला चाहता है, क्योंकि गुरुमाता की इच्छा है कि वह रानी के कानों का बाला पहने, और यदि वह बाला लेकर नहीं जाएगा तो अपने गुरु और अपनी गुरुमाता की नजरों में गिर जाएगा। राजा ने उत्तंक से कहा कि वह इसके लिए स्वयं रानी से मिले। उत्तंक रानी के पास गया और उनसे सारी बातें बताई। रानी उसकी बातों से अत्यंत प्रभावित हुई और सहर्ष अपने कानों का बाला उतारकर उसे दे दिया। इसके साथ ही उसने राजा के साँप के समान कुण्डली अवस्था के बारे में बताया ताकि वह उस कान के बाले को सुरक्षित बचाकर ले जा सके। उसने रानी को धन्यवाद दिया और वापस जंगल की ओर चल पड़ा।।
साँप के सामन कुण्डली मार कर छिपे राजा द्वारा कान का बाला छिनने का प्रयास: कुटिया की ओर वापस लौटते समय उस उत्तंक ने काफी थकान महसूस किया और एक स्थान पर अपने बगल में कान के उस बाले को रखकर वह आराम करने लगा। अचानक से वह धूर्त राजा वहाँ आया और कान के उस बाले को उससे लेकर भागने लगा।
कान के उस बाले के लिए उत्तंक का संघर्ष : उत्तंक ने उस कान के बाले को उठाने के लिए अपना हाथ आगे बढ़ाया।
वह उस धूर्त राजा के पीछे उस बाले को पुनः पाने के लिए पूरा जंगल दौड़ता रहा। एक बूढ़े आदमी की मदद से वह उस धूर्त राजा के राज्य में प्रवेश कर पाया। उसमें इतनी क्षमता थी कि वह राजा के संपूर्ण राज्य को जला डालने का दवाब बना सके, और इस तरह से उसने उस राजा से कान को बाला वापस ले लिया।
गुरुमाता को आशीर्वाद : उसने जब अपनी गुरुमाता को कान का बाला दिया तो उसके अदम्य साहस के लिए गुरुमाता ने उसे बहुत-बहुत आशीर्वाद दिया।
उत्तंक का साहसी सफर: उत्तंक ने जब अपने साहसी सफर के बारे में अपने गुरु को बताया तो उन्होंने उससे मार्ग की घटनाओं का संबंध बताया। उसके गुरु ने बतया कि उसने जो गंदा पानी पिया था वह अम्बरोसिया था, जिसने उसे आंतरिक जवानी दिया।
काले और सफेद दो धागे से जो रानी बिनाई कर रही थी वे क्रमशः रात और दिन थी। बारह तीलियों वाला चक्का अपने बारह महीनों के साथ साल का परिचायक था और बच्चे मौसम के परिचायक थे। जिस आदमी से तुम मिले थे वह वर्षा के देवता थे और जो घोड़ा दिखाई दिया वह अग्नि देवता थे।
जीवन के प्रति उत्तंक की सावधानी : जिस प्रकार से उसने अपने कर्तव्य का पालन बेहतर ढंग से किया, उसे देखते हुए उसके गुरु ने उसे बताया कि उत्तंक यदि इस संसार में तुम सफलतापूर्वक जीना चाहते हो तो अपने सामने आए अवसरों का लाभ उठाओ ताकि आगे अपने भाग्य को वश में कर सको।

उत्तंक ने अपने गुरु से कहा कि वे उसे पिछले कई वर्षों से पढ़ा रहे हैं, इसलिए वह अपने गुरु को गुरुदक्षिणा के रूप में कुछ देना चाहता है ताकि उनके हृदय को संतुष्टि मिल सके। - Master sends Uttanka to his mistress who shares her desire to wear the earrings of the queen in the feast. This leaves him astonished.

Passage-1: (Page 52)
Once upon a time, when the wise men of India dwelt in forest hermitages and made their homes of mud and straw,
there lived in such a hermitage, a young boy called Uttanka.
Many years passed by, and he grew up.
Soon he had learnt all that his master could teach him.
One day he went to his master and said, “Dear master, you have taught me all these years, and yet I have never once repaid you. Tell me of some gift I may bring you that will please your heart.”.
वर्षों पहले की बात है, भारत के विद्वान लोग मिट्टी और फूस की कुटिया बनाकर वन में रहते थे।
इसी प्रकार की एक कुटिया में एक युवक रहता था जिसका नाम उत्तंक था।
कई साल बीत गया और वह जवान हो गया।
जल्दी ही उसने वह सब कुछ याद कर लिया जो भी उसके गुरु ने उसे पढ़ाया था।
एक दिन वह अपने गुरु के पास गया और बोला, “गुरुदेव! आप मुझे इतने सालों से पढ़ा रहे हैं और मैं आपको आज उक कुछ भी नहीं दे पाया हूँ।
कृपा कर मुझे बताएँ कि मैं आपके लिए कौन-सा ऐसा उपहार लाऊँ ताकि आपके हृदय को आनंद का अनुभव हो सके।”
Passage-2: (Page 52)
His teacher said, “Child, there is nothing that I desire, Go to your mistress and ask her.”
So Uttanka went to his mistress and, bowing low before her, asked her if there was anything she desired
“Yes,” she replied. “I have long cherished a wish to wear the ear-rings worn by the queen.
Go to her and get them for me.
In four days a feast will be held.
I want to wear them on that day.
Get the ear-rings for me and I shall know of your true devotion.”
उसके गुरु ने कहा, “प्रिय पुत्र! इस संसार की कोई भी ऐसी वस्तु नहीं है जिसकी मुझे इच्छा है। अपनी गुरुमाता के पास जाओ और उनसे पूछो।”
अतः उत्तंक अपनी गुरुमाता के पास गया और उन्हें साष्टांग दण्डवत कर उनसे पूछा, उनकी ऐसी कोई इच्छा है जिसे वह पूरा कर सके।
“हाँ” उन्होंने जवाब दिया। “लंबे समय से मेरी एक ही तमन्ना दबी है जिसे मैं कभी पूरा नहीं कर पाई हूँ, वह यह कि मैं वही कान की बाला पहनूं जो रानी ने पहनी है।
उसके पास जाओ और मेरे लिए वह ले आओ।
अगले चार दिन में त्योहार आनेवाला है।
मैं उसे उस दिन पहनना चाहती हूँ।
मेरे लिए वह कान की बाली लेकर आओ ताकि मैं समझें कि तुम्हारा हमारे प्रति प्रेम और समर्पण पूर्ण है।”

Uttanka, hearing this, was filled with dismay.
Nevertheless, he set out through the forest to the city, where he knew the king dwelt.
He had not gone far, when he saw a huge bull coming towards him.
As it drew nearer, Uttanka saw seated upon the bull a man so large that he drew back in fear.
But the man called out, “Uttanka! Drink this,” and he held out a cup full of dirty water.
Uttanka turned his head away, but the man said “Drink, Uttanka, it will help you on your way.”
उत्तंक ने जब यह सुना तो वह उदास हो गया।
इसके बाद भी वह जंगल के उस मार्ग पर चल पड़ा जो उस शहर को जाता था जहाँ राजा रहते थे।
अभी वह बहुत दूर नहीं गया था कि उसने देखा कि एक विशालकाय भैंसा उसकी ओर आ रहा है।
जब वह काफी नजदीक आ गया तो उसने देखा कि उस भैंसे पर एक आदमी बैठा है जो काफी लंबा है और उसे देखकर उत्तंक भयाक्रांत (अत्यंत भयभीत) हो गया।
लेकिन उस आदमी ने बड़े प्रेम से आवाज लगाया, “उत्तंक, इसे पी लो” और उसने एक प्याला गंदा पानी पीने को दे दिया।
उत्तंक ने अपना सिर उधर से घुमा लिया, लेकिन उस आदमी ने कहा “उत्तंक, इसे पी लो, यह तुम्हारी सहायता करेगा।”
Passage-4: (Page 52)
At last he came to the palace of the king.
He boldly went inside and did not stop to look about him, till he saw the king himself seated upon the royal throne.
“Sir,” said Uttanka, bowing low,
“I have come from a hermitage in the forest many miles from here.
My mistress desires to wear the ear-rings of the queen on the feast day and if I do not take them to her, I will lose favour in my teacher’s eyes.”
अंत में वह राजा के राजमहल में पहुँचा।
वह निर्भय होकर बिना रुके अंदर चला गया और किसी की बिना प्रतीक्षा किए तब तक अंदर जाता रहा जब तक कि उसने राजा को राजसिंहासन पर बैठा नहीं देख लिया।
निवेदन करते हुए उत्तंक बोला, “महाशय!”
“मैं यहाँ से कई मील पीछे जंगल से चलकर एक ऋषि की कुटिया से आया हूँ।
मेरी गुरुमाती की इच्छा है कि वह त्योहार के दिन रानी के कान में पहनी जाने वाला बाला पहने। यदि मैं वह ले जाने
में असफल होता हूँ तो इस स्थिति में मैं अपने गुरु की नजरों से गिर जाऊँगा और उनका विश्वास खो दूंगा।”
Passage-5: (Page 52)
The king smiled kindly upon the boy.
“You must ask the queen,” he said.
“Go to her chamber and ask her.”
Uttanka went to the queen’s chamber but he could not find her.
He went back to the king and said, “Sir, I cannot find her!”
The king looked at Uttanka as he stood there,
with the dust of travel upon his clothes, and his hands and feet dirty and stained,
“Is that how you would go to the queen?” he said.
राजा भोलेपन के साथ उस युवक पर हँसा।
वह बोला, “तुम निश्चय ही ये बातें रानी से कहो।”
उनके दरबार में जाओ और उनसे बोलो।”
उत्तंक रानी के दरबार में गया पर वह उसे नहीं दिखी।
वह वापस राजा के पास गया और बोला, “मैं उन्हें नहीं पा सका।”
राजा ने उत्तंक की ओर देखा जो वहाँ इस समय खड़ा था।
उसके कपड़ों पर यात्रा की धूल जमी हुई थी और उनके हाथ
और पैर गंदे थे और उस पर गंदगी के निशान पड़े हुए थे।
“इस सबके होते हुए तुम रानी के पास कैसे जा सकते हो?”
Passage-6: (Page 53)
Uttanka felt ashamed.
Washed and clean, he again went in search of the queen.
This time he found her.
The queen held out her hand, and Uttanka saw the ear-rings sparkling in her palm.
“You are a good child, Uttanka,” she said.
“I give you the ear-rings willingly.
But beware!
These earrings have long been coveted by the Serpent King.
Do not lose them.”
उत्तंक ने शर्म सी महसूस की।
नहा-धोकर, स्वच्छ हो कर वह एक बार फिर से रानी को खोजने चला।
इस बार उसने उसे पा लिया।
उत्तंक ने देखा कि रानी ने अपना हाथ बढ़ाया और उसे उतार लिया।
तत्क्षण दोनों ही कानों का बाला उनकी हथेलियों पर चमकने लगा।
वह बोली, “उत्तंक! तुम एक अच्छे छात्र हो।”
मैं तुम्हें अपने कानों का बाला सहर्ष दे रही हूँ। लेकिन सावधान रहना!
लंबे समय से यह कानों का बाला इस धूर्त राजा के द्वारा सुरक्षित रखा गया है।
इसे किसी भी हाल में नहीं खोना।”
Passage-7: (Page 53)
Uttanka thanked her and started for home.
Dusk was falling and he was tired.
Leaning against the trunk of a tree, he rested, placing the ear-rings on the ground beside him.
Suddenly, he saw a hand snatch the earrings and disappear.
He sprang to his feet and turned round in time to see a man dressed in rags, running through the forest.
Uttanka ran after him as fast as he could when suddenly the man changed into a snake which wriggled into a hole in the ground.
उत्तंक ने उन्हें धन्यवाद दिया और अपनी कुटिया की ओर लौट चला।
शाम होने लगी थी और वह थकान अनुभव करने लगा था।
वह अपने बगल में कानों का बाला रखकर एक पेड़ के तने के सहारे लेट गया और आराम करने लगा।
अचानक उसने देखा कि एक हाथ उसकी ओर बढ़ा और कानों का बाला लेकर भाग गया।
वह अपने पैरों के बल पर कूदा और उसी समय पूरा जंगल उस बूढ़े और फटे कपड़ों में लिपटे आदमी को खोज निकालने के लिए छान मारा।
उत्तंक उसके पीछे अपनी क्षमता से अधिक तेज दौड़ा तभी अचानक से उसने देखा कि वह आदमी साँप में बदल गया और जमीन में बने एक बिल के अंदर जा घुसा।
Passage-8: (Page 53)
Uttanka was greatly distressed for, try as he did, he could think of no way to get through so small a hole.
He sat down to lament his fate, when an old man appeared before him.
“Do not worry, my son,” he said, “I have come to help you.”
Even as he spoke, there was thunder and lightning and a great thunderbolt fell.
The whole earth shook with the force of it.
Suddenly all was quiet again, but the place next to where Uttanka stood was a big hole in the ground.
उत्तंक काफी उदास हो चुका था क्योंकि उसने अपनी क्षमता से अधिक प्रयास कर लिया था पर वह यह नहीं सोच पा रहा था कि वह किस प्रकार से बिल की छेद के अनुरूप वह भी पतला हो सके।
वह इसे अपने भाग्य का खेल समझ कर उदास बैठ गया कि तभी वहाँ उसके सामने एक बूढ़ा आदमी आया।
वह वृद्ध बोला, “मेरे पुत्र! दुखी मत हो, मैं यहाँ तुम्हारी सहायता के लिए आया हूँ।”
जब वह आदमी उसे ऐसा कह रहा था तो उस समय बिजली चमक रही थी और अचानक से वज्रपात हुआ।
इस आघात से सारी पृथ्वी हिल गई।
अचानक वहाँ एक बार फिर से सन्नाटा छा गया लेकिन जहाँ उत्तंक खड़ा था, उसके बगल में जमीन में एक बड़ा सा छेद हो गया।
Passage-9: (Page 53)
Uttanka entered the hole and found himself in the kingdom of Serpent King.
He walked slowly along and came to two women weaving a piece of cloth.
He asked them the way to the palace of the Serpent King They did not heed him and went on with their weaving.
He saw that their cloth was made of black and white threads.
Next he came to a wheel with twelve spokes.
Six boys turned the wheel round and round.
“What are you doing?” he asked the boys.
They did not answer him, and went on with their work.
So he went on till he saw a man with a beautiful horse.
उत्तंक उस बिल में प्रवेश कर गया और उसने अपने-आपको उस सर्प राजा के राज्य में पाया।
इसके साथ ही वह धीरे-धीरे आगे बढ़ता गया और उसे स्थान पर पहुँच गया जहाँ दो औरत एक कपड़े का टुकड़ा सिल रही थी।
उसने उन महिलाओं को साँपों के राजा के राजमहल का रास्ता पूछा।
उन्होंने उसकी बातों पर कोई ध्यान नहीं दिया और अपना कपड़ा सिलती रही। उसने देखा कि वे महिलाएँ काले और सफेद धागे से अपना कपड़ा सिल रही है।
जब वह वहाँ से आगे बढ़ा तो एक चक्के को देखा जिसमें बारह तीलियाँ थीं।
छह लड़के उस चक्के को गोल गोल घुमा रहा था। उसने उन लड़कों से पूछा, “तुमलोग क्या कर रहे हो?”
उन्होंने उसे कोई जवाब नहीं दिया और अपने काम में लगे रहे।
इसलिए वह आगे बढ़ता रहा और उस स्थान पर पहुँचा जहाँ एक आदमी एक सुंदर घोड़े पर बैठा था।
Passage-10: (Page 53)
Uttanka went up to him.
He was so struck with the horse that he bowed respectfully to the man and said,
“O, Lord, I bow to you. Grant me favour.”
The man turned and said, “What can I do for you?”
Uttanka replied, “Let the Serpent King be brought under my power.”
“Blow into this horse,” the man replied.
वह उसके पास गया।
घोड़े के साथ ही वह व्यक्ति इतना अधिक कठोर लग रहा था कि वह (उत्तंक) उसके सामने गया और सम्मान के साथ झुककर बोला,
“हे प्रभु! मैं आपके सामने नतमस्तक हूँ। आप मेरी सहायता करें।”
वह मनुष्य उसकी ओर घूमा और पूछा, “मैं तुम्हारे लिए क्या कर सकता हूँ?”
उतंक ने जवाब दिया, “मुझे सामर्थ्यवान बनाकर उस साँपों के राजा को मेरी शक्ति के अधीन करें।”
उस आदमी ने जवाब दिया, “इस घोड़े पर प्रहार करो।”
Passage-11: (Page 53 & 54)
Uttanka went up to the horse and blew and blew, and from every hair of the horse’s body darted a flame that shot through every space in the kingdom of the Serpent King.
It burnt the houses till all the serpents rushed out, begging Uttanka to save their lives.
“Let the Serpent King return the ear-rings,” said Uttanka.
All the serpents then clamoured for the king to return the earrings. He did so.
The man gave Uttanka the horse and in a few moments, he was back at the hermitage, just in time to give the ear-rings to his mistress for the feast.
She blessed him for his great courage.
उत्तंक उस घोड़े के पास गया और उस पर लगातार प्रहार करने लगा और घोड़े पर किए जा रहे हर प्रहार से उसके बालों पर जो निशान पड़ता उससे आग की एक लपट निकलती जिसके चलते उस साँपों के राजा के राज्य में हर ओर आग की लपटें उठने लगी।
इन लपटों से उन सापों का घड़ तब तक जलता रहता जब तक कि वह साँप अपने घरों से बाहर नहीं आ जाता, ये त्रस्त सभी साँप उत्तंक के पास अपने प्राणों की रक्षा के लिए आया।
उत्तंक ने उन साँपों को कहा “तुम अपने राजा से बोलो कि मेरा कानों का बाला लौटा दे।”
इसके बाद सभी साँप अपने राजा के पास गए और तेज आवाज में राजा से उस कानों के बाले को लौटाने के लिए कहने लगे।
राजा ने वैसा ही किया। उस आदमी ने उत्तंक को घोड़ा दिया जिसके चलते वह कुछ ही क्षणों में अपनी कुटिया लौट कर आ गया।
जिस समय उत्तंक ने अपनी गुरुमाता को कानों का बाला उत्सव के लिए दिया, उसी समय उसने उसके इस महान साहसपूर्ण कार्य के लिए उसे आशीर्वाद दिया।
Passage-12: (Page 54)
When Uttanka related his adventures; his master smiled and said,
“The dirty water you drank, my boy, was ambrosia, that will give you eternal youth.
The two maidens weaving the black and white threads are night and day.
The wheel with twelve spokes is the year with its twelve months and the boys, the seasons.
The man was the God of Rain and the horse was the God of Fire.
You have been well looked after, my child, and deserve my blessings.
Go into the world now, for great fortune awaits you.”
Thus, Uttanka, having fulfilled his duties, went into the world to seek his living.
He was not as other men, for he knew that God protected him.
He had nothing to fear.
जब उत्तंक ने विस्मित करनेवाली अप्रत्याशित घटनाओं से भरी ये सारी कहानी अपने गुरुदेव को बताई तो वे मुस्कुराए और बोले,
“मेरे बच्चे! जो गंदा पानी तुमने पीया था वह अम्बोरस था, जिसने तुम्हें चिर यौवन देने का काम किया।
जो दो औरत काले और सफेद धागों से कपड़े सिल रही थी वे रात और दिन थीं।
वह चक्का जिसमें बारह तीलियां थी वह बारह महीनों वाला वर्ष था और वे छह लड़के मौसम का परिचायक था।
वह आदमी वर्षा के देवता (वरुण देवता) थे और वह घोड़ा अग्नि देवता थे।
मेरे बच्चे तुम्हारा अच्छे से देखभाल हुआ है और तुम मेरे आशीर्वाद के वास्तविक हकदार हो।
अब तुम संसार की यात्रा पर निकलो, सौभाग्य तुम्हारा इंतज़ार कर रहा है।”
इस प्रकार, उत्तंक अपने कर्तव्य का पालन अच्छी तरह से संपन्न कर अपनी आजीविका के लिए संसार के संघर्ष में उतर गया।
वह किसी अन्य सामान्य आदमी की तरह नहीं था, बल्कि एक ऐसा व्यक्ति था जिसकी रक्षा ईश्वर स्वयं कर रहे थे।
उसके पास भयभीत होने के लिए कुछ भी नहीं था।
