What are the rotational symmetries of a square? How many lines of reflection symmetry Class 9

Question 1.

What are the rotational symmetries of a square? How many lines of reflection symmetry does it have? What about a regular pentagon? A regular hexagon? Class 9

Answer:

i. A square has 4 rotational symmetries as shown below.

ii. A square has 4 lines of reflection symmetry.

iii. A regular pentagon has 5 rotational symmetries and 5 lines of reflection symmetry.

iv. A regular hexagon has 6 rotational symmetries and 6 lines of reflection symmetry.

Question 2.

What is the length of the longest chord in a circle of radius 5 units? Is there a smallest chord? Class 9

Answer:

Longest chord = diameter

= 2 × radius

= 2 × 5

= 10 units

∴ Length of the longest chord is 10 units.

There is no smallest chord. As the chord moves toward the edge, it shrinks to a point.
